Over 150 million children in India lag behind in their educational development. To ensure all children – including those with a history of abuse, mental health problems, disabilities or other life challenges – can learn, Sol’s ARC has developed a highly impactful application for teachers.
The application, called RedFlag, helps teachers identify children at risk of falling behind, trains them in inclusive practices and connects them to professional therapists when needed. The RedFlag app was validated by more than 150 experts. Subsequently, over 1000 teachers piloted the app. The results indicated teachers’ increased ability to identify children at risk of falling behind or dropping out. It indicated an immense potential for improving learning outcomes and for bridging the gap between rehabilitation services and the children who need them.
Sol's ARC’s inclusive education solutions have been adopted by various leading Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). One example is the “Educate Girls Development Impact Bond”, a multi-funder programme that provides and improves education for girls in rural India. This programme demonstrated learning gains of 79% compared to a control group. Following this positive outcome, the app and its accompanying training programme have now been scaled up through direct partnerships with several government bodies in India.
“Early identification of the risks of disabilities and mental illnesses has many advantages including a better prognosis and an improved quality of life for the child. Over time, Sol’s ARC has expanded its programme and is now working on a systems level. Through state level partnerships they are embedding inclusion of ALL children in Indian schools.”
